The Extra-Dry models included in the professional grade Byzance Series from Meinl have been treated with utmost care and attention and this is immediately evident in the hand-hammered, puckered surface of the B22EDMR. Straight out of their Turkish workshop, this 22-inch, Extra Dry ride, has been considerately and deliberately shaped to deliver its intended tonality while the untreated finish makes the cymbal look like it's been lying in a rainy backstreet for a decade or so.

This medium-thick ride is gifted with warm and melodic charm and the strike response is direct and gives a mass of feedback. If you were to compare the cymbal to its highly-polished and gleaming counterparts, the B22EDMR has a much less shrill voice, coloured by dynamics reminiscent of the '60s and with a pleasantly raw edge. While the sustain is fairly limited, this Byzance ride has an undeniably unique sound that will add professional refinement to any kit.
